Nintendo manufactured the Wii and released it on September 14, 2007 in Japan. The Wii's "code name" or prior name was Revolution.  Later, it was released all over the world as the Wii. The Wii's closest "ancestor" is the Nintendo Gamecube (see below left). The Nintendo Gamecube games work on the Wii (see below right)
