A is for Abraham Lincoln. Abraham was the president of the U.S. when he was in the Civil War. His main goal was to preserve the Union and not to abolish Slavery. He was a commander in chief . He was on the Southerners side. Democrats had accused him of being to powerful. The victory of the Civil War had changed how people thought of him. He had gotten assassinated on April 14, 1865.
